Abstract
Forty-eight xanthelasma lesions in 19 patients were treated by a split-lamp mounted argon laser under local anesthesia. The therapy was well tolerated, all treated lesions responded to the therapy. No intra- or postoperative complications occurred, no functionally significant scar developed. The cosmetic outcome was assessed as good or very good in 37 of 46 lids, nine showed residual lesions. Fourteen lids out of 25 with a follow-up longer than one year developed a recurrence.
The method described represents an alternative treatment for xanthelasmas, which is easy to perform, avoids surgery, has shown good results without complications and is accepted very well by the patients.
