Abstract
The authors report on a new orbital implant for anophthalmic cavities, consisting of a Bioceramic sphere (synthetic hydroxyapatite) with a titanium coupling system for connection of the implant to the cosmetic prosthesis. The clinical results of the first 25 patients who had the implant surgery in a two-year period are discussed, as well as the advantages of Synthetic Bioceramic as compared to other materials, including coralline hydroxyapatite.
