Abstract
The authors report the lid abnormalities in a 21-year-old woman suffering from arthrogryposis multiplex congenita. Besides the orthopedic problems, the congenital malformation was responsible for severe bilateral ptosis, almost fixed upper eyelids, retracted lower eyelids, lagoph-thalmos and a bilateral exposure keratitis. The treatment consisted of a recession of the levator muscle aponeurosis in the upper eyelids combined with a frontalis suspension, recession of the retractor muscle in the lower eyelids and placement of a spacer. The procedure corrected both the lid positions and the lagophthalmos.
