Abstract
The concept of allergy, now a little more than fifty years old, has had a profound and enduring influence on medical thinking; however, with the ever accelerating rate of increase of knowledge, all theories and supposed facts need frequent reappraisal. It is well to remember the wise words of Josh Billings: “It isn't what we don't know that makes us ignorant. It is what we know that is wrong.” It will be the purpose of this paper to re-evaluate some aspects of sensitization phenomena.
