Abstract
The contents of this review include current information on advances regarding the chemistry and chemical modifications (surface and internal) of enzymes that affect their kinetic behavior. As an illustrative example of identifying catalytically essential amino acid residues at the active site(s), the case of liver alcohol dehydrogenase is shown.
