Abstract
A diagnostic interview of borderline personalities in adolescence has been designed on the Weinberg's structural interview and with regard to the borderline concept in adolescence. Emphasis is placed on specific factors in adolescents. The therapist should obtain insight into the imaginations of the adolescent and become acquainted with those areas of specific interests, possible fantasies which may dominate the adolescent.
The sense of reality is not necessarily intact. The therapist should also keep in mind that the sense of identity of the adolescent is often fragile and furthermore, that his experience of his own body is uncertain. The actual point of development in the adolescence process of separation-individuation should also be assessed. The adolescent may have difficulties in verbalizing, and the interviewer runs the risk that the material obtained is too meager for assessment. A drawing test may be added. An example is given.
If the interview is conducted in order to assess the possibilities of psychotherapy, the interviewer must be aware that the closest person in relation to the adolescent (often the mother) is a central theme in the interview. It should be approached very carefully. □Diagnostic Interview, Adolescence, Borderline.
