Abstract
Two cases of Wernicke's encephalopathy, possibly iatrogenic, provoked by intravenous y infusion of glucose are reported. These and similar reported cases suggest that preventive thiamine and vitamin B complex should be administered to patients suspected of malnutrition and/or alcohol abuse, who for any reason get intravenous infusions of glucose. Calculations based on the literature indicate that the critical period of malnutrition may be as low as one month. □ Wernicke's encephalopathy, glucose infusion, vitamin B complex, thiamine.
