Abstract
Delusional beliefs are among the most puzzling phenomena in the field of psychopathology. In this article definition and classification are analyzed from a clinical point of view. It is postulated that 1) most definitions are not in detail applicable to clinical conceptualization, and 2) even modern classification is often non-systematic. A proposal for definition is given, dimensional description is advocated, and the difference between the ICD-10 and the DSM-IV definition of bizarre delusion is pointed out.
