Abstract

Seven patients with phobic disorders were administg red with a synthetic thymic extract, thymopentin (TP-S), in order to correct depressed polymorphonuclear cell (PMN) and monocyte phagocytosis and killing capacities. Subcutaneous administration (50 mg, three times weekly, for a period of 8 wks) of TP-5 resulted in a significant increase in phagocytic function with no change in the phagocytic capacity of PMN. These data support the concept that immunomodulators can achieve a correction of immune deficiencies associated with phobic disorders.
