Abstract
In spite of a large population base, Austria spends around 11% of gross domestic product on healthcare for its citizens. Psychiatric services include both inpatient services and community-based services, and the government has initiated many educational programmes. The government has a mental health plan which is the responsibility of the state rather than the federal government, and has a recent suicide prevention programme.
