Neurotic disorders in the elderly

Abstract

Neurotic symptoms and disorders in the elderly are common, distressing and treatable. They are clinically important both in their own right, and because they complicate the diagnosis and management of other mental and physical illnesses in this age group. This article reviews the clinically relevant aspects of the nosology, epidemiology, associated factors and management of neurotic disorders in the elderly population, and indicates some promising lines for future research
