Facts, Fiction, and the Pharmaceutical Industry

Abstract

The pharmaceutical industry has long been forced to suffer unfavorable media coverage and intense Congressional scutiny. The recent success of three popular novels, the subject of which is the pharmaceutical industry, suggests that public interest in the industry remains strong. How the industry is characterized in these three novels is reviewed and conclusions about industry marketing strategies for the 1980's are drawn.
