Abstract

A program for treating young heroin addicts was developed during the spring of 1970 with an initial thrust toward out-patient abstinence. In mid-1970 a 65-bed detoxification facility and a 25-bed residential therapeutic community were opened. There was a unique commitment to treat all those who sought help without regard to age or associated illnesses. Ex-addicts comprised most of the initial staff.
