Abstract
A survey of medical examiners/coroners offices in the United States conducted by the Special Action Office for Drug Abuse Prevention shows that there was a lower number of narcotics-related deaths in 1972 than had occurred the previous year. For 25 areas in the United States, there were 1,853 narcotics-related deaths in 1971; however, there were 1,738 narcotics-related deaths in 1972 for these same areas. This is a decrease of over 6%.
