Abstract
A sample of 138 rural high school students was surveyed with regard to their use of marijuana and other psychotropic drugs, factors influencing such use, and whether the rock music festival held in their community had an impact on marijuana use among these students. Users and nonusers were found to differ with regard to their use of other drugs, perception of sources influential in the users' decision to stop smoking marijuana, and in the nonusers' decision to not smoke marijuana. The rock music festival was not found to have had a direct impact on initiation into marijuana use. No users or nonusers used marijuana as a result of attending the festival.
