The Sladen and Mozdzierz AMA Scale: A Failed Replication Attempt

Pages 397-404 | Published online: 03 Jul 2009

Abstract

Sixty five valid MMPI profiles, based on tests administered during the 1986 calendar year were retroactively scored for a scale designed by Sladen and Mozdzierz (1985) which was reportedly capable of identifying individuals likely to drop out of chemical dependency treatment. In this study, it was found that only 33% of those cases that actually failed to complete treatment were accurately identified, and that the overall “hit” rate was only slightly better than chance alone. Possible reasons for the failure to replicate Sladen and Mozdzierz's (1985) results were explored.
