Abstract

Hall L, Cohn L. Bulimia: a guide to recovery. Gurze Books: Carlsbad, CA, 1999. Hall L, Ostroff M. Anorexia nervosa: a guide to recovery. Gurze Books: Carlsbad, CA, 1999.: Reasonable estimates indicate that 515% of high school and college age women have engaged in some bulimic behavior. In addition, men account for 10% of the cases of bulimia, a figure that is on the increase. Anorexia affects 1–5% of the general population, with men accounting for 10% of those cases. Many addictions nurses work with clients who experience symptoms from one or both of these disorders, and may also be providing health education to groups within the community about these eating disorders. Two new books are available from Gurze Books, a publisher that specializes in disseminating information and resources related to eating disorders. Each book is written to be used by the person with the disorder and by family members. They are written in simple terms, with many examples and practical strategies for working at recovery.
