Abstract
In laparoscopic cholecystectomy, gall bladder removal can be completed simply and safely when a retrieval sac is used. The device should be strong, leak-proof, resistant to tear and of sufficient capacity to cope with the largest gall bladder and stone load. An ideal sac should be easy to deploy and open without requiring additional instrumentation and should allow the gall bladder to be opened inside the sac to release stones for easier crushing and extraction. It should not be necessary to resort to enlargement of the trocar puncture. Some of the currently available sacs are assessed in this review.
