Pages 153-159 | Published online: 10 Jul 2009

Summary

Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) are a major healthcare problem for which the conventional treatment is open operative repair. More recently, endovascular approaches to this problem have been developed and continue to progress, with the placement of stent–grafts via much less invasive approaches. This article reviews the history of these devices and the groups of patients suitable for their placement. The results to date are also discussed, along with the controversies which still surround the use of such devices.
