Abstract
Pharmacognostic studies on the stem of Alternanthera sessilis R.Br, have been carried out along with fluorescence characteristics and ash and extractive values. The young stem shows 10-14 fine grooves, two opposite lines of hairs and collenchyma under each ridge. It shows anomalous growth represented by 2-3 discontinuous annular rings, each ring being composed of numerous collateral vascular bundles joined together by fibrous elements.
