An Antimicrobial Principle from Sphaeranthus indicus L. (Family Compositae)

Abstract

A bicyclic sesquiterpene lactone has been isolated from the petroleum ether extract of the aerial part of the Indian Composite Sphaeranthus indicus. The compound deonstrated strong antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, S. albus, Escherichia coli, Fusarium sp., Helminthosporium sp. and other microorganisms.
