Abstract

Introduction

Verbena littoralis H. B. K. (Verbenaceae) is the sole species of this genus which grows in Costa Rica. It is a shrub widely used in folk medicine as an effective antidiarrhetic (1). It has also been claimed as a remedy for typhoid fever, for relieving inflammations from insects bites (2) and for cancer (3).
