Abstract
Kola Nuts Stimulated Gastric Acid Secretion In Cats From A Mean Basal Level Of 17.1 To A Peak Level Of 130 µ-Equivalents Per 10 Minutes After 110 Minutes. An Equivalent Amount Of Caffeine Contained In The Kola Nuts Had 42% Of The Potency Of Kola Nuts In Inducing Acid Secretion. Atropine and Cimetidine Were Effective In Suppressing Kola Nut-Induced Acid Secretion. The Results Suggest That Consumption Of Kola Nuts Causes An Increase In Gastric Acid Secretion Which Is Greater Than An Equivalent Dose Of Caffeine.
