Abstract
Extracts of the roots of R. australe were found to inhibit edema after carrageenin injection in the left hind paw of rats. The degree of inhibition was found to increase as a function of time after administration of carrageenin, and reached a maximum at 5 h. Ibuprofen (50 mg/kw) was used as reference and induced 59.6% inhibition, which was similar to the activity shown by the pet. ether and methanol extracts (500 mg/kg).
