The Evaluation of Butyrospermum paradoxum as a Suppository Base

Abstract

Due to the polymorphic nature and leakage of cocoa butter, new bases of greater stability with a melting temperature fairly close to body temperature were investigated. Studies evaluated “shea butter” as a suppository base, especially for tropical uses. The fat is soft at room temperature so it was blended with beeswax to obtain a firm suppository that melts near body temperature and satisfied the pharmaceutical requirement of drug release.
