Abstract
The present article summarizes the literature related to treatment of drooling in cerebral palsy. Conservative treatment, such as physiotherapy and oro-facial regulation therapy, pharmacotherapy, and different surgical methods are reviewed and the degree of success discussed. The need for a thorough medical and neurological examination and team work approach is emphasized. The findings reported in the literature lead to the conclusion that after proper medical examination and correction of aggravating factors conservative treatment should be initiated at the earliest possible age, including the use of oral prosthetic appliances. If drooling persists pharmacotherapy may be useful, and the appearance of new synthetic anticholinergica should be welcomed. As a last resort, based on careful selection of patients, surgery provides an excellent solution.
