Variability of fundamental frequency measures

Abstract

This study was designed to obtain fundamental frequency (Fo) data based on repeated measures from a group of normal subjects and to provide preliminary normative data of Fo variability within individual subjects. Sixteen female subjects participated in this study. Their Fo's were measured daily for 8 days. It was found that the Fo's of both individual subjects and of the subjects as a group varied considerably over the 8-day period. It is recommended that the clinician take repeated, over time measurements of clients' Fo's and other vocal parameters in order to establish sound baseline data for voice therapy.
