Comparison of voice performance in auditory and visually assisted phonetography

Pages 3-8 | Published online: 11 Jul 2009

Abstract

Phonetography has been established as a clinical tool to estimate the phonational range and the vocal dynamics of individuals. Therefore, certain auditory test conditions in respect of the presentation of the test tones and the voice measurements have been defined. In this study, phonetograms representing voice performance during this auditory phonetographic setting were compared with phonetograms estimated during visually assisted conditions. The phonetograms of the respective settings were quantified by planimetry and analyzed by statistics. It could be demonstrated that in 11 of 22 healthy adults the phonetographic areas of both modal settings showed similar planimetric results whereas they were significantly different within the other 11 individuals.
