Metalanguages in medicine

Abstract

For explaining the notion of 'metalanguage', author analyses the rôle of language as a tool of utterance and communication. The disadvantages of natural language for medical data processing are emphasized and the necessity of creating an artificial language or metalanguage is explained. A short typology of metalanguages is given. A view on the future of metalanguages in medicine is outlined.

Pour expliquer la notion de 'métalangage', l'auteur analyse le rôle du langage comme moyen d'expression et de communication. II montre les inconvénients du Iangage naturel pour le traitement des données médicales et la nécessité de créer un langage artificiel ou métalangage. Une typologie des métalangages est esquissée. Un essai de vue prospective est fourni sur l'avenir des métalangages en médecine.
