Abstract

Mammary diagnostic data are coded automatically and exchanged between data-bases at the Pathological Institute and the Radiological Department in Graz.

The data-bases have been compiled by free-text analysis of radiological and pathological findings using a SNOP-coded thesaurus of about 50 000 entries. At the Pathological Institute data input, searches and evaluations are performed on a video display terminal, connected via four-wire open data line with the Univac 494 of the Computer Centre Graz. The data-base at the Radiological Department consists of a PDP 15. Approximately 10 mammographies are performed a day, while pathologists examine 10 mammary biopsies (3-5 of them being intra-operative quick section examinations on average).

Since February 1975, correlation of 708 cases has been established. Complete coincidence between radiological and pathological finding has been found in 619 cases. In 89 cases, so-called +/− and −/+ discrepancies occurred and their special treatment is presented.
