Abstract
Educational approaches should be aimed at preparing inmates to deal with, and respond to, the usual problems associated with reduction of substance misuse behaviours.
In a previous paper (Incorvaia & Baldwin 1997) a review was provided of substance and misuse patterns in the context of correctional services. This second paper aims to provide an overview of the treatment options available to offenders with substance use problems upon incarceration. Recommendations are provided in response to unresolved challenges of service provision. The heterogeneous patterns of substance use by offenders, and the diversity of programmes available in correctional services, indicate a requirement for integration of service provision to meet individual treatment needs.
