Mediterranean Origins of Electrotherapy

Pages 181-186 | Published online: 07 Jul 2009

Abstract

The knowledge of electricity and its application in the ancient Near East was far more extensive than generally recognized. Studies in this area are often hampered by an assumption that electrical observations and technology must be of modern vintage. This paper suggests that a thorough and open-minded study of ancient texts and artifacts might reveal a previously unsuspected sophistication about electricity and magnetism in the ancient world.
