Nucleic Acid and Protein Synthesis in Cultured Chinese Hamster Ovary (Cho) Cells Exposed to the Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields

Abstract

We have previously demonstrated that quasi-rectangular, asymmetrical, pulsing electromagnetic fields of low frequency can induce new patterns of transcription in the dipteran, Sciara. The present experiments show that asymmetrical fields can induce nucleic acid and protein synthesis in mammalian cells. The most prominent changes were noted in RNA synthesis in size classes that correspond to a messenger RNA (mRNA).
