Skin Effects Associated with Wearing Fabrics Washed with Commercial Laundry Detergents

Abstract

Washing of fabrics in laundry detergents available on the European market revealed patterns of ingredient deposition that differed from those obtained with US detergents. Skin irritation and sensitization tests conducted on volunteers after extended home usage of clothing washed in European products under European conditions demonstrated no evidence of irritation or sensitization effects associated with the wearing of the fabrics. These results are similar to the findings from earlier studies performed with US products and support the dermal safety of commercial laundry detergents both in Europe and the United States.
