Abstract
A survery of bacterial sensitivity to antibiotics was made among in-patients at the Karolinska Hospital, Stockholm, during 3 autumn months of 1969. Beta-haemolytic streptococci, Staphylococcus aureus, Haemophilus influenzae, Escherichia coli, enterococci, coliforms, pseudomonas and proteus were tested against sulphonamide, benzylpenicillin, ampicillin, tetracycline, streptomycin, chloramphenicol and cephalosporin. The sensitivity of E. coli and coliform bacteria to ampicillin was remarkably poor and had diminished since 1966. Staphylococcal sensitivity was satisfactory, the frequency of multiresistant strains being less than 15%. The sensitivity of Staph. aureus seemed to be essentially unchanged since 1956.
