Congenital Smallpox

Abstract

An account is given of a case of smallpox in an 8-day-old infant. Evidence for intrauterine transplacental transmission of infection from the mother, who escaped clinical disease, is presented. The mechanism of such intrauterine transmission of infection from a subclinical case is discussed.
