Abstract
Hepatitis-associated antigen (HAA) was detected in 2.3% of sera of 870 Greenlanders investigated, and HAA was especially frequent in the northern areas (3.3%). This finding is in accordance with the high incidence of notified cases of infectious hepatitis in Greenland. HAA was not found in any of 218 Icelandic sera. The findings suggest a frequent transmission of long-incubation hepatitis in a population with poor social and hygienic conditions.
