Laboratory Diagnosis of Mumps by Immunofluorescence on Experimentally Inoculated Cell Cultures

Abstract

With immunofluorescence, hemadsorption, hemagglutination and reading for cytopathic effect as indicators of mumps infection in roller tube cell cultures, the relationship was observed between inoculated virus doses and time before the appearance of the various indicators. The preparation of specimens for immunofluorescent staining was facilitated by the introduction of a simple procedure for obtaining samples of routine monolayer cultures directly from infected roller tubes.
