Mumps virus was isolated from testicular biopsy specimens in 3 out of 5 cases of mumps orchitis. These 5 patients as well as 8 out of 9 other patients with mumps orchitis lacked circulating autoantibodies against testicular tissue antigens. Some implications of these findings are discussed.
