Inter- and Intrafamilial Distribution of Giardia Lamblia Infection

Abstract

A limited outbreak of giardiasis was observed in 5 families. Four of the families had been in direct contact with the presumed index case. The infection rate was estimated to 100%. The fifth family was infected indirectly by one of the mentioned families and infection occurred in 50%. Three infectious generations could thus be demonstrated and the index case was most likely a 3-year-old girl adopted from Israel.
