Abstract
Out-patient check-ups of 603 persons returning from an average of 2 years and 8 months tour of duty to the tropics were completed in 99.3%. Only 14 (2.3%) cases of strictly tropical disorders were detected, but no serious disease. A long-term (3–5 years) follow-up questionnaire revealed no additional cases. It is concluded that check-up of asymptomatic travellers has a very low benefit-cost rate.
