Summary
Rabbits were preimmunized for 3 weeks and then injected intravenously for 3 weeks with group A streptococci of the same type.
When the virulence of the cocci was kept at an intermediate level, corresponding to an L.D.50 for mice of 3.102 — 105 cocci, 19 of 32 rabbits (60 per cent) developed heart disease.
The streptococcal etiology of rheumatic fever is discussed. The heart lesions in rheumatic fever and the experimental condition studied here seem identical, and there is at present nothing to invalidate the view that rheumatic fever is experimentally reproducible.

Des lapins ont été préimmunisés durant trois semaines et ont ensuite reçu durant trois semaines des injections intravéneuses de streptocoques du groupe A du même type.
La virulence des coques une fois maintenue à un niveau intermédiaire correspondant pour les souris à la dose léthale D.L.50 de 3.102 — 105 coques, il s'est développé une cardiopathie chez 19 de 32 lapins (60%).
L'auteur discute l'étiologie streptococcique du rhumatisme articulaire aigu. Les lésions cardiaques du rhumatisme articulaire aigu et l'état expérimental étudié ici paraissent être identiques et aucun fait n'est venu jusqu'à présent infirmer la conception que le rhumatisme articulaire aigu puisse être reproduit expérimentalement.

Es wurden Kaninchen während drei Wochen vorimmunisiert und dann mit Streptokokken Gruppe A desselben Typus während drei Wochen intravenös injiziert.
Als die Virulenz der Kokken auf einem Zwischenniveau entsprechend einer letalen Dosis L.D.50 für Mäuse von 3.102 — 105 Kokken gehalten wurde, trat bei 19 von 32 Kaninchen (60 Prozent) Kardiopathie auf.
Die auf Streptokokken beruhende ätiologie des rheumatischen Fiebers wird besprochen. Die Herzläsionen des Fiebers und der hier untersuchte experimentelle Zustand scheinen identisch zu sein und es gibt gegenwärtig keinen Grund um die Ansicht zu entkräften, dass das rheumatische Fieber experimentell erzeugt werden kann.
