The contribution and challenges of electives in the development of social accountability in medical students

Deborah Murdoch-EatonUniversity of Leeds, UK; DEBORAH MURDOCH-EATON MBBS, MD, FRCPCH, is a professor of Medical Education in Leeds, and director of Learning and Teaching for the School of Medicine. She chairs the Faculty International Committee, has contributed to implementation of an ‘internationalisation’ strategy for the Faculty (with Andrew Green), and has key role in developing global health teaching as a feature of the medical curriculum in Leeds. Her National Teaching Fellowship funds both developmental work with a number of African Medical schools, and an international project on generic learning skills on entry to medical school.Correspondence[email protected]

Andrew GreenUniversity of Leeds, UK; ANDREW GREEN, BA, MA, PhD, is a professor of International Health Planning and head of the Nuffield Centre for International Health and Development in the Leeds Institute for Health Sciences at the University of Leeds (which among other activities runs an intercalated BSc in International Health for medical students). His focus of research and teaching is on health systems within developing countries.
