Life Writing in Poland: A Historical Overview

Abstract

The article discusses in a synetic way the history of life writing in Poland from the Middle Ages to the present. It presents the most important genres of life writing in Poland, profiles of authors and the most important achievements against the historical and cultural background.

Lucyna Marzec

Lucyna Marzec, is an academic and critic, editor-in-chief of Czas Kultury magazine, and scholar in fields of literary theory, gender studies and history of Polish and European literature. She works at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań as an assistant professor at the Department of Polish and Classical Philology. Author of academic articles in the field of life writing (especially letters, biographies and archives) and books: Papiery po Iłłakowiczównie. Archiwum jako przedmiot badań [Iłłakowiczówna’s Papers.
