ABSTRACT
In this brief piece, I appeal to the world for recognition of the plight of the Afghan people following the Taliban takeover of the country in August 2021, after the United States’ fast exit after years of promise and presence. Thousands were left frightened, dislocated, unprotected, and forgotten, at a loss for country or hope. Much has occurred in my own journey since those early days. This essay records some of my initial thoughts and reactions following the precipitous events in the final days of August 2021.
