Effects of magnetic exposure on ions in electric fields

Abstract

The motion of ions in aqueous environments under the action of electric fields is considered and the effect of superimposed ac and dc magnetic fields is investigated. The model adopted is likely to apply for exogenous signals in a frequency range 0 to 10 MHz, ac electric fields smaller than 10 V/m, and magnetic inductions smaller than 10⁻² T. The paper shows how small values of the viscosity, which can occur near macromolecular surfaces, are necessary to obtain an appreciable field effect. Some effects of the magnetic exposure are discussed, which are relevant to biological systems.
