Using 20% honey solution eye drops in patients with dry eye syndrome

Uso de una solución al 20% de miel como gotas oculares en pacientes con el síndrome del ojo seco

Summary

The purpose of this work was to investigate the effect of 20% honey solution eye drops on human patients with dry eye syndrome. Thirty six patients (72 eyes) of mean age 44.7 years old were examined. Investigations were carried out before and after the treatment. Nineteen patients were treated with 20% honey solution eye drops three times a day, and 17 patients were treated with artificial tears three times a day as a control. After treatment with the honey eye drops, improvement of ocular changes was observed in most of the patients compared to the control treatment. We also found a positive effect of the honey eye drops on the state of the cornea.

El propósito de este trabajo fue investigar el efecto de una solución de miel al 20% en forma de gotas oculares en pacientes con el síndrome del ojo seco. Treinta y seis pacientes (72 ojos) con una media de edad de 44,7 años fueron examinados. Los exámenes se llevaron a cabo antes y después del tratamiento. Diecinueve pacientes fueron tratados con la solución de miel al 20% en forma de gotas oculares tres veces al día, y 17 pacientes tratados con lágrimas artificiales tres veces al día como control. Después del tratamiento con las gotas oculares de miel, se observó mejora en los cambios oculares en la mayor parte de los pacientes en comparación con el tratamiento control. También encontramos un efecto positivo de las gotas oculares con miel en el estado de la córnea.
