Unfortunately, there were errors in creating the 1952 data as well as in some panels displaying the 1973 map. These errors affect tables 3 and 4 as well as figures 4 and 8-10. In correcting these mistakes, we also discovered other inaccuracies in the text, which we correct below. The overall conclusions of the article remain the same.
On page 746, the RMSE values were incorrect for the 1952 and 1973 images and should be 0.00097 and 0.00086, respectively. On pages 746-7, the number of clusters used for classifying the 1973 data should have stated “forty,” and the sentence “We then repeated the same process on the 1952 image,” should have the phrase “using twenty clusters” appended after. Figure 5 now reflects this update. On page 747, the radius parameter for the wedge filter should be “10.”
Finally, the affected tables, figures, and relevant text have been corrected and updated. On page 752, the sentence “For example, portions of the line class for the 1952 data were incorrectly classified as bare soil…” should be updated to “… classified as eroded soil…”
The first author apologizes for these errors and for any confusion caused. We thank the editorial team at The Professional Geographer and Taylor & Francis for their kindness and assistance.
