Convenient and Efficient Synthesis of 2,4-Dideoxy-levoglucosan

Abstract

A convenient and efficient synthesis of 1,6-anhydro-2,4-dideoxy-β-D-threo-hexopyranose (2,4-dideoxy-levoglucosan) from levoglucosan has been developed. The method uses cheap reagents and requires only crystallization and distillation for preparation of pure product on a multigram scale.
