Abstract
The Fluid Dynamic Vibration Absorber (FDVA) is a dynamic vibration absorber where the inductance is gained by translated fluid mass and the capacitance by coil springs. Due to the hydraulic transmission, the FDVA is a lightweight component compared to other dynamic vibration absorbers. As shown in this paper, the FDVA reduces the wheel load fluctuation of a passenger car. After optimisation, the FDVA is integrated into a damper's piston rod. Experiments in a quarter-car test rig show the benefit of the integrated FDVA compared to a standard damper. Excited by a stochastic road profile, the measured benefit with FDVA is more comfort and less wheel load fluctuation.
